A woman dubbed the “Godmother of Drumming” is covering Disturbed and proving a point at the same time.

Dorothea Taylor is the subject of a new thought-provoking and rocking video by the instructional site Drumeo. The clip begins with the middle-aged woman going through some scenarios she says have happened to her as a drummer.

She walks into a music store only to be told where the pianos and violins are. She arrives at church to perform with the worship team, but is directed to the organ in the back. And she shows up for a Disturbed cover band audition and is asked if the music is too loud.

But Dorothea likes it loud when she’s at home behind a drum kit and proved it by covering “Down With the Sickness” in the same video.

“I’ve been drumming my whole life, and every one of these experiences have happened to me throughout my life,” she says at the end. “Drummers come in all ages, sizes, shapes, ethnicities and regardless of how good you are, how old you are, we’re all still part of a drumming family. So remember: don’t judge a drummer, or anybody, by their looks, and always, always, always keep sharing your drumming passion to the world.”
