From 1836 to 2004, the Missouri State Penitentiary was in operation in Jefferson City one time housing over 5000 inmates...including the likes of James Earl Ray, Pretty Boy Floyd, Sonny Liston and Bob Berdella...with 40 mens meeting their end in the the gas was nicknamed "The Bloodiest 47 Acres In The United States...and now you can tour this historic prison
The facitliy was shut down after it was damaged by a tornado back in May...but it's partially reopened and welcoming visitors for ghost tours.
We talked to Communications Manager Britney Mormann about the history of the penitentiary...and, as an added bonus, we replayed a call from last week from listener Patrick who served a long stretch there, giving us a first hand insight to life inside.
