Dear Johnny,

I’m writing this letter as I sit at dialysis. In 2016, I was diagnosed with uterine cancer and went through chemo, radiation, and eventually a full hysterectomy.

I was given a clean bill of health after 18 months. I was hopeful that the lives of my children and I would finally go back to normal. Then in June of this year, I noticed that my legs and body were swelling abnormally. I went to the ER in

August and ended up with CKD (chronic kidney disease). The doctors think that it’s from the chemo being hard on my kidneys. I have to do dialysis 3 times per week and Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays are my roughest days. Throughout all of this my 3 children have been amazing. I’m a single mom of Zoe (19), Adia (15), Tre (10). With me being unable to work consistently for the past couple of years, the kids have really stepped up. Zoe is currently working three jobs to help support us. She joined the Air National Guard right after high school as one of her jobs, in addition to that she is also in college full time working towards her nursing degree. Adia takes on any job she can to earn a little cash, and Tre has even taken to collecting cans for money. My landlord has been great throughout everything. We are behind on rent and some utilities and she keeps saying not to worry about that. I filed for disability and should be given approval in January. In the meantime, my kids keep telling me that I don’t need to worry about anything for Christmas, but it breaks my heart. The only family I have is my kids. We don’t have anyone to turned to except each other. Thank you for reading my letter. I realize there’s so many people out there who have it far worse than us, and I appreciate anything you can do.

Merry Christmas – Chastity
