Dear Johnny,
I’m a plumber and construction worker and often do work on
the side. My wife lost her job about a month ago due to
taking off work. You see, we have 2 kids (ages 10 & 11). Six
years ago we lost our oldest daughter in a car accident, who
was 10 at that time. My 11-year-old, who was 5 at the time,
has been having trouble dealing with it and with moving to a
new school. Long story short, he started cutting himself. It
was brought to our attention by his teacher. Between
meetings with the school and getting him in to see a
counselor, it made it hard for my wife to keep up with her job.
I even lost some work getting him taken care of. Doing my
best, I still have trouble keeping up with the bills. And if it
wasn’t hard enough, 3 weeks ago I tore the meniscus in my
knee I worked with it for a week before I couldn’t do it
anymore. I refinanced a loan just to afford the copay.
Unfortunately, I’ll be off work most of December and my wife
starts her new job at the beginning of the year. My son’s
birthday is the 10th of this month, and Christmas is coming
up fast. I’m supposed to be the backbone for my family and I
just don’t know where else to turn. I’m not asking for anyone
to pay my bills. I just don’t want to let these kids down. They
are my life. Not only that, but they have been through so
much already. Thanks for listening
- Ron
