Dear Johnny,
My name is Taryn. I’m married and I’m a first time mom to a
beautiful 4 month old baby boy. My husband owns his own
business and is working 7 days a week to provide for our
family. We have been struggling lately with the cold weather,
since our heater is not working. To get to the heater, you
have to walk outside and into a basement garage (separate
entrance). At first we thought it was a circuit board problem,
then an ignitor problem, and possibly a breaker. We’ve spent
hundreds of dollars trying to repair it. My husband is waking
up all night long to go out and restart the heater.
For the past few nights, he’s had to go out in the snow.
Today we had someone come take a look at it, and they said
it has a hole in the heat exchanger. We were told it could be
leaking carbon monoxide into the house and its $1700 if it’s
even repairable. We just don’t have that money and they told
us to shut it off and keep it off until it can be fixed. We are
now confined to one room of the house with just a space
heater. We just can’t afford a new heater and the space
heater is going to be so expensive. Not to mention it
confines us to one room.
Thank you so much for reading my letter and happy
holidays.
- Taryn
